How To Create a Band
Part 3: Find Band Members
By James Blakely
Finding band members is always a pain. You want members who enjoy playing music you do. You also want them to take the band seriously so that you have a chance at the coveted record deal.

Finding musicians is easy. You know where they are. Music stores, concerts, and any other music relate establishment.

If you just can't find the right people with the right chemistry then you should think about auditions. Place a classified ad in the local paper or online for members. Go Listen Live has a classified section for bands seeking members and musicians seeking bands. Online band member classifieds are excellent resources to find the people or band you are looking for.

Make sure that you are happy with the style of music that a potential member or band plays. If they are off genre from you it will cause tension during song writing. Cross genre bands are hard to keep together. Usually bands in different genres have different ambitions. It is hard to keep members focused if they don't have the same goals you do.

Personalities are also important. These people are going to be with you a lot. They are your new best friends. Make sure that you have an ability for friendship with each one, and they also with each other. You may like the drummer but if the bassist doesn't your band has a big problem.

Whoever you choose to make a band with always be professional. If you have a practice be on time. Let your band know if you won't be there. If you are committed you want all of your band members to take your music and your career seriously.

Well we get or members together now we need something to play. Lets look at improvisation and songwriting.
