How To Create a Band Part 6: How To Get Gigs
By James Blakely
So you think your all ready to play live.
Your band has spend a lot of time practicing and you are ready to take on the world.
The first step you should consider is playing a couple of open mic nights at some local clubs.
Get your feet wet with a crowd that is not expecting a big name band to hit the stage.
Open mic performances take the pressure off of your first few performances.
If you can make it through a couple of those then its time to look for a paying gig.
The best way to break into the local scene is to befriend other local bands.
Get a position opening for them.
They will be able to get a club or bar to give you a shot.
Gigs are mutually beneficial to both clubs and bands.
Clubs want people to come and drink.
Bands that can draw more people are more desirable to clubs.
Bands want the exposer of the patrons of the club.
You both want each others people.
The more gigs you play, the more of a following you will get.
The bigger your following the more chance of getting the record deal.
My advice is to play every gig you can.
No matter if its a street corner or the Hollywood Bowl.
You need to get your music out there and have people hear it.
There are a couple of services out there that will help you get gigs.
You can get booked at PowerGig.
Their services seems to be extremely powerful and worth while to bands that are looking to excel their career.
Gigging is extremely important to any bands success.
If you play as many as possible you should be headed in the right direction.
