I have heard it from every band.
We don't like to categorize our sound.
You can't label what we do.
That is not true.
No matter how much you don't want to admit it, your band has a sound that fits into a category.
The problem today is there are way to many music genres.
Bands fall in a deep whole when they consider themselves post-punk emo or any other long winded way of saying rock band.
I see all genres doing it from rap to country.
The only thing you are doing is hiding your music from the people who enjoy your style of music.
I know there are a lot more searches for metal band then their are post-industrial hardcore.
The person looking for metal band would probably like post-industrial hardcore, but getting there is such a chore.
Your music genre is important to getting new fans.
So why don't you just generalize the music so people outside of post-industrial hardcore can listen to it.
There is nothing wrong with saying you are a rock band.
If you want to narrow it say you are a hard rock band.
You just can't be to simple.
It will not scare anyone away that you don't define yourself completely.
Thats for the fans to do anyway.
I thought you didn't like labels anyway.
So why such a constrictive music genre?
I also know people who can't choose a genre.
They end up mixing very obscure music genres to make something even more obscure.
We are like numetal meets electronica meets the beegees.
If it is so hard to describe your sound, then what the hell are you playing?
You make it sound like you found completely new sounds from Mars.
Unless you are scientists with new forms of acoustics, I think you can find some general label.
We all know the need to be unique with your sound.
You need to understand that how you describe and talk about your music is very important.
Next time someone else asks you what kind of music genre your music is, tell them something easy to remember.
A new form of rock, or a dark form of rap, but don't give a laundry list of influences or a very contrived label.
