Posters have always been a staple of the local music scene.
Urban walls are plastered with them.
Even major label artists have posters every where to promote their shows and performances.
Do these really work for promotion today?
That depends on how you use them.
Posters are not cheap.
If you are planning a poster marketing solution then you need to keep them generic.
Don't use dates. Dates will make your posters obsolete later.
Web sites, flyers, and postcards would be better for performance driven marketing.
Posters should contain:
- Band Name - Do I need to elaborate?
- Band Logo - Again no real new ground being broken here.
- Web Site - Get that web address out their. It is your cheapest marketing tool.
You want your band to be associated with your domain name.
- Tag Line - You need a sentence that explains to the viewer why they need to see or listen to your band.
Posters are definitely not a necessity for local bands, but anything that gets your name in front of your potential audience is good.
They are expensive and it takes a lot of work to effectively use them.
You may find that stickers or postcards are a better avenue.
Here are a couple of printers that I found online that print posters.
iloveimprint.com
mixmatters.com
Ways to make your poster cheaper.
- Get them printed at a local print shop like Kinkos.
- Get them printed on less quality paper.
- Try to keep your designs down to 2 colors - More colors will jack up the price for the printing.
